Covid-information
Belgium is doing very well in terms of vaccination rates and willingness. More than 85% of the adults and more than 73% of the full population have received at least one shot. In the Flanders region (where the event is held), these numbers are even higher (92% and 90%, respectively).
Because the Covid-restrictions can change every week, we are not yet able to provide final information on the Covid-restrictions during the school and conference. We encourage you to check out the latest information on the following website:
If you need to get a COVID-test right after arrival in Belgium, you may be able to get them where you are entering the country. If you need to get a PCR-test when you are in Leuven, you can find the latest information here. One of the testing centres is in the city centre, which is not that far from the event venue. Have a look at this website on beforehand, as you’ll need to make an appointment to get your PCR test.
Arriving by plane from Brussels-Zaventem
Detailed information can be found on: www.brusselsairport.be/en
Option 1 is to take the train to Leuven (ticket price 9.30 EUR). The travel time is approximately 13 min and there are 2-3 trains/hour. Detailed timetables can be found on http://www.belgianrail.be/en. Once you are at Leuven railway station, you can take bus line 2 (platform 6) in direction Heverlee Campus or line 616 (platform 14) in direction Zaventem. You get off at the bus stop Heverlee Kantineplein, with an approximate travel time of 15-25 min. This bus stop can be easily recognised, as it is right after a railway crossing and you should be able to spot the Arenberg Castle straight ahead. Details on buses can be found on: www.delijn.be/en/?vertaling=tr...
Option 2 is to take bus 616 (platform A) at the Airport. This will drop you off at Heverlee Kantineplein with an approximate travel time of 1 hour 10 min. It will continue to the railway station of Leuven if you have a hotel in that area.
Option 3 is to take a taxi. If you prefer booking it on beforehand, then we recommend Budget taxi. This costs 40-50 EUR and takes about 20 min. They need to be booked in advance. Otherwise, you can get one of the taxis in front of the airport.
Arriving by plane from Brussels-Charleroi
This is less convenient as the airport is much further away from Leuven than the Zaventem airport.
Option 1 is to take the shuttle bus to Brussel-Zuid (price 14 EUR). It runs every 30 min and takes about one hour. Tickets can be bought online or at the ticket office outside the terminal. All details can be found on https://www.brussels-city-shuttle.com/en#/. Remember, you still need to take the train to Leuven.
Option 2 is to take the shuttle bus from the airport to Charleroi Sud railway station, which costs 5 EUR and drives regularly. Then, you take a train to Brussels-Zuid/Midi and transfer to Leuven. The train costs 9.50 EUR with an approximate travel time of 90-120 min. Tickets can be bought online, ticket machines at the station or at the ticket office.
Option 3 is to order a taxi on beforehand. We recommend Budget taxi. This option is rather expensive: 95-120 EUR and needs to be ordered in advance. You could also take a taxi in front of the airport.
Arriving by train from Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi station
The easiest option is take the train to Leuven (ticket price 5.3 EUR). The travel time is approximately 30 min. Tickets can be bought online, ticket machines at the station or at the ticket office. Please pay attention to the fact that you have to take the train to Leuven (or Louvain) and not to Louvain-la-Neuve. Louvain-la-Neuve is situated near Wavre and is the French-speaking equivalent of KU Leuven.
Once you are at Leuven railway station, you can take bus line 2 (platform 6) in direction Heverlee Campus or line 616 (platform 5) in direction Zaventem. You get off at the bus stop Heverlee Kantineplein, with an approximate travel time of 15-25 min.
